Catching up...

What a face! Love those big, beautiful blues :-)
I know, I know. Chloe INSISTED on Berkley having her picture taken with her favorite doll. Oh, and if you were wondering, Chloe has this baby sporting one of Berk's jammies. Chloe's most favorite activity now is dressing her babies in all of Berkley's clothes!
What an incredibly sweet smile!
I left the room for a second a few days ago and returned to see Chloe reading Berkley a story! Too cute!
What a sweet little fatty! Love this chunky monkey SO much :-)

Chloe-ism #6 & 7

While waiting in Dr. McKenna's office to have Berkley's gas issues evaluated, they called back an older lady. When she met the nurse at the door, Chloe asked, "Mommy, where is that Grandma's baby?"

Chloe was having a blue popcicle when she suddenly had a funny look on her face...
Me: What's wrong, Chloe?
Chloe, touching her throat: My posicle (this is how she pronounces it) hurts!

Time passes

Ok, so you all know by now that I don't typically post without pictures included, but I guess in my boredom without Chad (who will hopefully be bringing home an elk/deer) I decided to post this nonetheless.

One of my favorite things in the world, as odd as it may sound, is to simply observe Chloe. Observation is one of the best ways to know what children know, which, given my educational background, would explain why I enjoy it so much. Chloe is one of the most amazing two-year-olds I know, but of course I'm biased! I've watched her language blossom (and when I say blossom I mean enormously), her understanding of the world around her grow, her hone fine motor skills largely through an array of art activities, her conquer the art of sommersaults and jumping, and so much more. I've loved every minute of it, and I totally look forward to watching Berkley do the same.

Yesterday while I was showing Berkley a simple book with pictures and labels, Chloe piped in to tell Berkley all about the pictures. She turned the page to a picture of shoes with the word "shoes" beneath it. Chloe said, "Mommy it says s h o e s. It says shoes! I did it!" She also drew a few pictures of apples and various other fruits with their accompanying labels. When I say labels I mean that she engaged in emerging writing, making zig-zag like scribbles that look like writing. She knows that her name starts with a 'c,' as well as mommy, daddy, and Berkley. She can write the letter 'C,' though it is usually backwards (which, by the way, is actually very normal). She paints beautiful pictures using a brush, though she likes to paint her feet and hands from time to time. The other day she figured out how to do and undo buttons, and she mastered zippers nearly a year ago. She has a crazy imagination, loves to sing and dance, adores swinging, likes to clean and fold laundry, is a girlie girl and a tomboy all at once. Wow-- she is so amazing and never ceases to amaze me.

What really gets me is seeing her with Berkley: she simply adores her. She thinks she's funny and fabulous, which she definitely is, and is constantly giggling at her.

I've had a bit of a difficult time having two-- it was much more than I ever expected in ways both good and bad. I love both my girls so much, and it's so great that they are different in their very own ways! As I was holding Berkley tonight before I laid her down to bed I remembered Chloe when she was that size. It's hard to believe that she's so big today. With two children it's been difficult trying to give them both the love and attention I would like to give. I feel bad because often Berkley's need and dependency overrule what Chloe may want/need (i.e. playing), but I know that this too will pass as Berk grows older. I just miss holding Chloe and snuggling with her like I did when she was little. Sure, we still do, but not as much as I'd like. Time passes so fast, and I pray that I will hold onto every moment I get to love, hold, kiss, and cuddle my girls!

Full of smiles

Chloe-ism #5

This one needs a little background explanation, so bear with me!

Berkley pooped the other morning, so I took her to change her diaper. After changing it and disrobing her (she almost always poops out), I laid her on my bed to run and get her some clothes for the day. I come back in the room and find Chloe sitting in front of Berkley...

Me: What are you doing, Chloe?
- I see Berkley with her diaper undone and Chloe wiping her bum with a wetwipe-
Chloe: Changing Berkley's bum. She pooped a big one, Mommy!
Me: I already changed her diaper, and she doesn't need another one!

I guess that's what I get for helping Chloe change her diaper the other day after she REPEATEDLY asked me to do so :-)

Chloe-ism #4

As I'm putting Chloe in her carseat outside of Carter's in Ogden...

Chloe: What happened to that car, Mommy?
Me, looking around: What car?
Chloe: It's broken on top. What happened to it?
Me, finally finding the car & laughing: Chloe, that car is not broken. It's a convertible!

Bye-bye Binky

I've got to admit that I'm a little ashamed to say that until 1 month ago my two and a half year old had a binky (granted she only had it for nap and bedtime for the last 9 months... for the most part). I remember having Chloe and thinking, 'When she's 1 the binky will be gone forever!' That was until she became enamored with the silly, stinky bink! Our next goal was 18 months, which came and went with a blink of an eye. Still, she had her binky. At this point I thought, 'Well, there's not really any rush. She's only a year and a half. Before we have another baby she'll be rid of it.' Shortly after I found out I was pregnant and the bye-bye binky debate played once again in our heads. Time inched closer and closer to Berkley's arrival, and the binky was STILL around! It came too close to her coming, and we decided to wait until after things became adjusted with Berkley to help Chloe give up her binky. The day FINALLY arrived, and she took it like a champ! After three nights she didn't get upset at all near bedtime. She hardly even mentions it anymore, despite the fact that Berkley has one. I'm so happy for her. You're probably wondering about the monster in the picture with Chloe (don't you love how her eyes are closed?! I guess she gets that one from her mama!): This is what Chloe chose to "replace" her binky. Mimi is her new bedtime friend and joins her & Mr. Monkey every night at bedtime. She pretty much wants to take Mimi EVERYWHERE, but doesn't with our coaxing :-) I can't believe she gave it up, but I'm so proud of her for doing it gracefully!

Chloe-ism #3

Chloe often struggles with patience, as most two-year-olds do, especially when we're somewhere and I have to feed Berkley in the car. Despite my efforts to keep her entertained, content and calm while I feed her sister, Chloe has the tendency to get on my nerves during this time. All four of us were in Logan when Berkley got hungry. Chad pulled over so I could feed Berkley, and Chloe was frustrated, upset, and desperately wanting to go somewhere, anywhere but sitting still to feed Berk. This is the short, funny conversation we had.

Chloe: Let's go, Mommy!
Me: We can't; I've got to finish feeding Berkley.
Chloe, with MAJOR attitude: She's not hungry. Put her back in her seat!
Me, annoyed: I'll put you back in your seat!
Chloe, with total seriousness: I'm already in my seat, Mom.

Just a few from the last few :-)

Berk lounging on Daddy's cot. A special shoutout to Chloe for the comfy pillow :-) Sometimes I think that Chloe forgets that Berkley is actually a person; she seemingly forgets this and acts as if Berk is a living, breathing doll that she can manipulate however she pleases! Oh the joys!
Lounging on the couch. Oh, and this is a funny side note, please tell me that you see her tiny middle finger pointed outward! For whatever reason this girly is ALWAYS flipping the bird.
"Oh no! Sis thinks I'm her baby doll again!"
Chloe posing for a picture. This is the day after she got a haircut, though this picture does not do her cut justice!
A before shot-- so much WILD, crazy hair!
Our little drool queen
